WOW #24: Workin' Dog Part 4-Surgery Day!

I had to do emergency surgery this morning! Auntie M brought in this really sad case. He appeared to be on his last legs!

OH NO!! His color's TERRIBLE! I think he's got jaundice!

First the examination...

This is when having a great sense of smell is really handy. No need for expensive gadgets like X-rays and MRIs.

Let me check your ears. My friend, Beauregard Burnside III is having trouble with his...could be something going around....

Hmmmm, I think I've found the problem. It's in the head all right. It's strange how often my patients need head surgery....

After the diagnosis is complete, it's time for the incision. I mentioned this was an emergency, right? Time is of the essence! Can't wait a single minute!

These cranial incisions are always tricky.

And my would-be assistants were worse than no help!

They kept trying to MOVE him if you can believe it! So I had to hold onto him while I was working on the incision!

Once the incision is made it's time to get all the bad stuff out.

Oh dear! There's a lot of infection in here!

Gotta get all that outta here!

BLEAH!!

PTUI!!!

Hmmm, what's this?

EWWW! A TUMOR! Ugh, UGH!! Spit it across the room!

I WISH I could have saved his ear! But you can see the infection was just too advanced and look at that wicked tumor lying right there beside the ear! Better to lose an ear than a patient! Right?

Once the bad stuff is evacuated, the patient goes to Recovery.

Don't bother to close the incision, you never know when more surgery will be needed.

Keep a chewie nearby in Recovery if your patient is a dog. When he goes for it, you'll know that he's recovered.

I'm EXHAUSTED! What a way to start the week!

Worrying about a patient comes with the territory when you're a doctor...

"Did I do my best for him? I sure hope he recovers!"

I'm afraid it's going to be a long week! I may need to do some more work on him later. I'd better get some rest. Everyone have a good night!
